How to Bulk Upload Images into Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central

In Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, users often add images manually while creating or updating item cards. However, when you need to import pictures for hundreds of items—such as during initial data migration or catalog setup—doing it one by one can be tedious.

To simplify this process, Business Central provides an easy way to bulk upload multiple item images at once using a .zip file. This feature ensures consistency, saves time, and helps maintain a professional visual catalog of your inventory.

Preparing Your Files

Before importing, you need to prepare your image files properly:

Ensure correct naming: Each picture file name must exactly match the Item No. in Business Central (e.g., 1001.jpg, 1002.png, etc.).

Supported formats: All common file types such as .jpg, .png, .bmp, and .gif are accepted.
Compress the files: Select all image files, right-click, and choose Send to → Compressed (zipped) folder.

The resulting .zip file will be used for import.

Importing Item Pictures

Follow these simple steps to import multiple item pictures at once:

Select the Search for Page icon 🔍 (top-right corner). Enter Import Item Pictures and select the related link.

In the Select a ZIP File field, browse and select your prepared .zip file. Click Open

A new line will appear for each item and corresponding image on the Import Item Pictures page.

If any items already have an image, the Picture Already Exists option will be selected.
You can choose to replace existing pictures (by keeping the “Replace Pictures” option checked) or skip those entries by deleting their lines.

Select the Import Pictures action. The Import Status field will update automatically to show whether each image was successfully imported or skipped.

Conclusion

The Import Item Pictures functionality in Business Central makes it simple to manage product visuals efficiently. Whether you’re migrating from another system or refreshing your item catalog, this feature ensures quick and accurate image updates without manual uploads—streamlining your product management experience.
